How many characters can be sent for one text message credit?

When sending text messages from within Light Blue, the number of characters included in each credit depends on the content of your message.

We’re going to have to include a short history lesson here. When text messaging was first invented, you could only send certain characters. This was called the GSM character set. If you don’t have vivid memories of pecking out text messages back in the 1990s, you can find out more about this on Wikipedia. The GSM character set is essentially numbers, the letters a-z (in both upper- and lower-case), a few accented letters, and a few symbols including the $, £ and € symbols.

If your message only includes characters that are part of the original GSM text messaging character set then one credit will cover up to 160 characters. If your message is more than 160 characters long, it’s 1 credit per 153 characters or part thereof.

If your message includes characters that are not part of the original GSM character set, one credit will cover up to 70 characters. If your message is more than 70 characters long, it’s 1 credit per 63 characters or part thereof.
