Jennifer Clare, Light Blue user, explains how Light Blue has helped her.
I've only recently become a professional photographer, though I've been wielding cameras for over thirty years. I was always the one with the proper camera, rather than the 110 camera, Disc camera or whatever the latest fad was, then a friend's wedding sparked something. So, before Light Blue, I used a notepad and a folder, then when I realised that things were now serious and I'd need to do tax returns and keep track of everything I decided to do a bit of research... which brings me neatly to the next question!
Looking around the options seemed few; generic databases and accounting software or a photography-based one which charged extra for basics and seemed rather aloof. Then lo; I came across Light Blue; the people who made it are great listeners, extremely obliging and send friendly, personal emails back (it's a lonely life this photography game) - the product was extremely good too!
I am far more organised - though looking at my workspace, you would never know it! Light Blue is an extremely sophisticated tool and I'm still learning, but I do know I'd hate to be without it. My first tax return would have been a complete disaster without Light Blue, and the automatic iCal sync is a total life saver for someone as absent-minded as me.
What's your favourite feature in Light Blue?Just one? Tricky! Apart from the obvious, really necessary stuff, I love seeing the profitability of each shoot, the fact that addresses link through to Google Maps, and the fact that you can keep track of mileage. Also, it's wonderful for keeping track of your equipment serial numbers, expenditure, and so on. (It's great for your insurers, but the grand total is an unfortunate reminder of my addiction to 'L' Glass!)
What do you like about version 3 compared to version 2?I love being able to use Light Blue with my iPhone! There's also the Warning feature, which allows me to flag any important information regarding a contact. It's great! It might be something as simple as marking that the client has been ill, to remind me to ask after their health, or that she's a potential bridezilla and that I should run for the hills!
I'm purely a portrait photographer and find Light Blue indispensable. Any wedding photographers out there who haven't yet invested in Light Blue - what are you playing at, and how do you cope?!
